We believe innovation is needed to develop positive gender identity, challenge norms, create new knowledge, drive behaviour change and dismantle injustice. We embrace innovation, discomfort and experiential learning. Our work is aligned to and contributes towards the South African National Strategic Plan on Gender Based Violence and Femicide (NSP on GBVF), the Africa Union Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

PREVENTION

We need to develop positive gender identity that enables full and free and empowered citizenship. There is wide acknowledgement that men and boys need to be partners in initiatives for change to eliminate GBV and hold each other accountable.

To discredit and discard toxic masculinities, means that we need to have alternatives to consider and test out.

Our programmes aim to co-create new norms, new identities and forge relationships based on human dignity.

ACTION RESEARCH

We need to focus on women’s economic empowerment in South Africa, and indeed Africa. We take the approach where we engage stakeholders and beneficiaries as ‘thought partners’ to research knowledge, attitudes and practices, including online. This will be intrinsically linked to co-creating new knowledge to drive transformational programmes in SA and continentally.

Asante Gender Action believes it is crucial that the effect of GBV on mental health is researched to ensure experiential and evidence-based initiatives lead to new initiatives.

EMPOWERMENT

We need to focus on women’s economic empowerment in South Africa, and indeed Africa. We need to focus on women’s economic empowerment in South Africa, and indeed Africa. We recognise the workplace as formal, virtual, home-based and informal but defined.

Our focus is on developing women’s resilience. We also tackle all forms of hostile working environment that go beyond having sexual harassment policies. Our initiatives also include GBV prevention and response that uses the workplace as a platform.
