OUR FOCUS

Asante Gender Action believes that creating positive gender identity is the basis for changing toxic masculinity and empowering women in the home, community, workplace and in political decision making. Ending GBV involves dismantling systemic injustice of patriarchy and racism. The elimination of one is dependent on the other and we recognise the need for healing and restoration at individual, community, country and continental level.

Our primary focus is on prevention.

OUR BELIEF

ASANTE is the Swahili word for THANK YOU and thus gratitude and recognition – for positive action. GENDER ACTION is about active engagement, participation and advocacy for change at both individual and systemic levels.

OUR STORY

The story of the Asante team is one where our lives have been weaved together for over a decade in different ways and in different spaces. Our founder Gil Harper is passionate about creating positive gender identity and is committed to young people leading change. She drew together a dynamic team to drive change. Combining forces brings together our diverse skills around the core passion of developing positive gender identity and preventing gender-based violence.
